| Allison Eyewear, a company of the IT Holding Group, has launched Anna Sui Vision. The eyewear line, which takes its name from the American designer known for her eccentric, often ironic style, consists of 12 ophthalmic frames and 18 sunglasses in plastic and metal. “My objective with the eyewear collections is to continue to globalize my brand. Eyewear is such an important accessory. I want to make it accessible to as many people as possible. Women who can’t afford my dresses can buy my eyewear and get the same thrill and tingle,” says Anna Sui. Targeted to women, the eyewear reflects the designer’s interest in distinctive, modern interpretations of retro shapes. Included are cat-eye, butterfly, oval, rectangular and mask-like frames sculpted and scalloped and accented with floral engravings and metal piercing. Some styles are semi-rimless or rimless. In others, lenses float above or beyond the rims or are supported by a bottom rim. Each frame comes in four colors, ranging from black, bordeaux, bronze and green to such combinations as white and black, blue and fuchsia and blue and lilac. Venice-based luxury shoe manufacturer, Ballin started
producing footwear for Anna Sui in the fall of 1998 for her "Goth" collection.
The collaboration has been highly successful; each season premiering
a new group of the most fancifully decorative, highly original and collectable
shoes and boots. Anna has always collected shoes. She scours flea markets
and vintage shops for inspiration. Her personal archive contains over
500 pairs. Her love and research are matched by Ballin's extraordinary
effort to capture Anna's spirit and indulge her most extravagant flights
of fancy. Watch for patchwork boots, rhinestone strap sandals, bead-encrusted
mules and jewel-toned lizard pumps.

PUCCI MANNEQUINS |

In 1997 the venerable display firm, Pucci debuted a wonderful
collection of mannequins designed by Anna Sui, now available to stores
worldwide. Pucci is known for its hip collaborations (Ruben Toledo,
Andrée Putman, Jeffrey Fulvimari, Veruschka). Anna had always collected
antique hat forms with naive painted faces. When she opened her first
boutique in 1992, Anna and some of her friends fashioned dozens of paper
mache "dolly heads" in the style of those original flea-market heads.
These handmade versions still live at the Anna Sui boutiques, decorating
the counters and displaying accessories. Very quickly, the "Dolly Head"
became a signature for Anna Sui. The Pucci collection offers recreations
of the countertop hat form "Dollies" and also full-body versions. The
mannequins retain Anna's original details: lace chokers, beauty marks,
eye patches, Sally Bowles-hair styles and lavender and pale green skin.
Little-known fact: actress/model Michele Hicks posed for the sculptor
who developed the body of the Pucci/Anna Sui mannequin.
